Looking to purchase sealed sacks for your vintage store or website?

Single Stitch T-Shirts
The elusive single-stitch t-shirt is one of the most talked about items today, in the vintage industry. With the vintage market booming, single-stitch t-shirts are leading the way as one of the most sought-after products on the market.
Buyers and sellers around the globe flock to get their vintage fix, with many through the entry-level single-stitch tee. With its easier barrier to entry, we have seen t-shirts be the frontrunner in this market.
With the likes of the American and Japanese markets putting heavy emphasis on this category, it seems single-stitch t-shirts will only continue to grow.
What is the difference between single-stitch and double-stitch vintage t-shirts?
In simple terms, single-stitch refers to the stitching used on a piece of clothing, typically a vintage t-shirt. Whereas double-stitch has two strands of thread.
Single-stitch is typically classed as better quality when it comes to clothes manufacturing. The single stitch, also known as a blind stitch, sees the clothing sewn inside out. This results in a distinctive finish where the stitch is much less visible. This method of sewing was popular in the '70s, '80s and '90s, and is generally considered as being of higher quality. In a time where much less was produced, single stitch sewing was to ensure quality remained on clothing.
The double-stitch method became popular in the mid-1990s, becoming much more dominant in recent times. The exact reasons for this transition are not simply understood, however, it is likely down to the cutting of costs, higher efficiency and cheaper labour.
Fast fashion has become synonymous with the newer, shorter longevity of items. Whereas vintage fashion is synonymous with much higher quality, fewer units produced and of course single stitch.
You can still find both single and double-stitch t-shirts that are vintage and modern. With the 90s introducing mass production many t-shirts transitioned to double stitching. However, the earlier eras are much more exclusive to the single stitch method.
